Is it worth buying Antique & Vintage Jewelry as an investment?

To explain, jewelry investing is more like fine art; similar to investing in a Rolex watch, luxury wine, or real estate, it depends on which hobby collectors belong to.

To invest in Jewelry or a Loose diamond?

Jewelry can be classified as Vintage Jewelry or Contemporary Jewelry; a Loose diamond can be classified as a white diamond or a Fancy color diamond.

First, when you understand more about the history, craftsmanship, and the details of the antique jewelry, you will know the value is more than just the piece of jewelry, and also the spirit of the designer and the changing of the times.

Most of the antique or vintage jewelry is unique; the designer bespoke the jewelry for the noble or wealthy family.

Contemporary Jewelry, mass production on the market. Everyone is wearing the same series. If you spent the money on Contemporary jewelry, it usually can only sell below the market value.

About the diamond, we don’t talk about all the mounted diamonds, unless the diamond is reaching the auction house quality, like big carats of diamond or top quality.

To understand how color affects the price, you need to know a thing or two about color grading. According to GIA, white diamonds are graded on a scale from D to Z.  Plenty of white diamond retail suppliers are on the market all over the world, and earn a limited profit compared with fancy color diamonds.

GIA calls “fancy diamonds” colored and not graded on this scale. These are exceptionally rare, and their ratios are much more similar to natural saltwater pearls.

GIA indicates that 1 in 10,000 diamonds has a desirable color. And the colors that attract the most attention are blue, red, pink, and green. Scarcity on the market, demand, and supply, everything about economics matters. OF course, the good color fancy diamond is not easy to find on the normal market,

As a result, fancy color diamonds have become one of the greatest jewelry investments. In recent years, the price has gone up to 40%.
